Self-diffusion in carbon-alloyed CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys

چکیده

Tracer diffusion of the substitutional components in interstitial (CoCrFeNiMn)1-xCx high-entropy alloys with nominally x = 0.002, 0.005 and 0.008 (in at. fractions) is measured at elevated temperatures from 1173 to 1373 K. Two different characteristic effects carbon addition on these FCC are distinguished. At highest temperature K, alloying by C relatively low concentrations (x 0.002) retards elements respect those C-free alloy. lower and/or higher ? 0.005), an enhancement rates all seen. A model suggested that relates self-diffusivities CoCrFeMnNi–C lattice distortion imposed interstitially dissolved carbon. The experimental results interpreted terms a decrease migration barriers for vacancy-mediated due presence atoms.

Multicomponent and High Entropy Alloys

This paper describes some underlying principles of multicomponent and high entropy alloys, and gives some examples of these materials. Different types of multicomponent alloy and different methods of accessing multicomponent phase space are discussed. The alloys were manufactured by conventional and high speed solidification techniques, and their macroscopic, microscopic and nanoscale structure...

Superior hydrogen storage in high entropy alloys

Metal hydrides (MHx) provide a promising solution for the requirement to store large amounts of hydrogen in a future hydrogen-based energy system. This requires the design of alloys which allow for a very high H/M ratio. Transition metal hydrides typically have a maximum H/M ratio of 2 and higher ratios can only be obtained in alloys based on rare-earth elements. In this study we demonstrate, f...
